Homemade Carmel Apples

The other night we dipped some of our orchard-picked apples in some carmel sauce, chocolate sauce and toffee bits. Yes, I had to refrain myself from eating each topping individually.

We did the same thing here last year. And here's what we did...

It took me all day to unwrap a package and a half of milk carmels. Kraft works just fine. I melted them with a splash of milk in a saucepan and when it was runny dipped in the first apple. I had to used the wooden spoon to help cover the top of the apple. After it was completely covered I took it out and placed it on some tin foil since I am out of waxed paper. After the apples had all been dipped in the carmel, I melted some chocolate chips in another sauce pan and spread the chocolate on quickly with a spatula (this will not look pretty, but it will taste very pretty.) Then I sprinkled on the toffee chips and place all the apples in the refridgerator to firm up. Be sure to place the waxed paper on a cookie sheet so you can easily transfer the whole thing to the fridge. I learned this the hard way. Finally, give each child an apple and let the fun begin!
Enjoy!
